APPLETON, WI, December 13, 2017 – Great Northern, a leader in custom retail packaging solutions, received two Excellence Awards in the 2017 North American Paperboard Packaging Competition. Great Northern’s Excellence Award Winners include an innovative package design for Griffon Vault – Premium Vodka in a Box, using an eco-friendly packaging concept that features a dispenser integrated within the package design. This is the second PPC award a Griffon box has received in the last two years.
The second award winner was Matrix Biolage, where the customer wanted a package made from an extremely earth-friendly “Rapidly Renewable Resource.” A Tree-Free paper was used, made from 100% reclaimed sugarcane fiber, enhanced with bamboo. Great Northern’s web process is also a more eco-friendly alternative. It has fewer operations and less waste than a standard sheet-fed, corrugated design. In addition, the laminated construction, made from a rapidly renewable source, eliminates flute lines and false scoring to enhance the graphics and provide a clean, finished look at retail.
“The Paperboard Packaging Council competition is an excellent opportunity for Great Northern to show packaging professionals new solutions for innovative package designs,” commented Mike Schliesmann, Great Northern Sr. VP/Business Unit Manager. “We have been very successful in providing high impact graphics and engineered packaging solutions using these laminated board combinations.”
Administered and hosted by the Paperboard Packaging Council and judged by a jury of packaging professionals, industry experts, professors, and media experts, this is the leading competition for carton manufacturers involved in the concept, design, print, performance, and shelf appeal of paperboard packaging.
Great Northern delivers the high-quality print characteristics that brands need to stand out in the marketplace, as well as the structural performance required to survive the rigors of the supply chain.
