How Multiple Substrate Options Helped Corso Cookie Succeed in Stores
Corso Cookie, a women-owned and run decorated cookie business has an innovative paintable and edible cookie for customization by the consumer. They had been utilizing a paperboard structure and needed a supplier that could offer them both a paperboard option and a thicker, stronger substrate to accommodate their club store items.
Corso Cookie came to Great Northern for a package that could provide more high-end graphics than their current solution and provide the needed strength for their larger quantities. They also wanted a uniquely shaped package with a carrying handle for the customer and multiple sizes and substrates to handle retail and club store channels. Each item would have different designs that needed precise color matching so that they match the end customers’ trademark color.
The Solution
Material
A 10 pt SBS top sheet and a .020 URB base sheet created a 30 pt laminated paperboard solution
Special Features
Our designers created a gable top auto bottom with a handle for ease of carrying
Optimized Shipping
The package was folded and glued flat which resulted in more cartons per pallet
Multiple SKU’s
Our manufacturing process handled multiple copy changes with low change-over costs
The Bottom Line
Since Great Northern can produce both single-ply and double-ply constructions, we were able to meet Corso Cookies’ needs. Our cost-effective manufacturing process gave Corso the flexibility to create multiple-sized packages on various substrates. Each structure had multiple print items, so our digital printing press was critical. Our designers also applied an internal heat seal coating to the top of the packages allowing for efficient co-packing. It also added a tamper-evident feature to the package.
The design of this package allowed the structure to be folded and glued flat and packed into corrugate master cases. This cut down on shipping costs as we were able to palletize several thousand packages per pallet. Also, we were able to use a thicker substrate for the club store outlets and not have to move to corrugate material. This resulted in us using less material and saving Corso Cookie more warehousing space.
