Environmentally Friendly & Recyclable
Products are designed and ready to be used for their application, providing long-term benefits for our planet. Choose to leave our planet a better place.
Disposable
Packaging materials can be disposed of in either an anaerobic landfill or recycling center.
Clean Reliable Energy
Microbes consume BioEPS® via organic biodegradation, producing humus and biogas for clean energy.
BioEPS® Technical Data
Features
BioEPS products allows the packaging for consumer products to be recyclable or placed into available home and business waste management systems for responsible landfill disposal.
Once the product is introduced into an anaerobic landfill environment it is designed to be converted into Landfill Gas (LFG) that is harvested to produce renewable energy (LFGE) in the form of electricity, direct use for industrial heating, vehicle fuel and renewable natural gas (RNG).
Testing Compliance
ASTM D5511 is a certified laboratory test to determine biodegradation. The D5511 test results indicated the product biodegraded by 12% during the 77 days of testing using the lowest temperature (mesophilic) profile for the test. This rate demonstrates accelerated degradation when compared to conventional Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) exhibiting no degradation during the test. All testing is facilitated at an independent laboratory.
Scope
This test method covers the determination of the degree and rate of anaerobic biodegradation of plastic materials in high-solids anaerobic conditions. The test materials are exposed to a methanogenic inoculum derived from anaerobic digesters operating on pretreated household waste.
This test method is designed to yield a percentage of conversion of carbon in the sample to carbon in the gaseous form under conditions found in high-solids anaerobic digesters treated municipal solid waste. This test method is designed to be applicable to all plastic materials that are not inhibitory to the microorganisms present in anaerobic digesters operating on household waste.
Summary of Test Method
4.2 The percent of biodegradability is obtained by determining the percent of conversion of carbon from the test material to carbon in the gaseous phase.
Significance and Use
5.2 The procedure is intended to create a standard laboratory environment that will permit a rapid and reproducible determination of the anaerobic biodegradability under high-solids digestion conditions.
Biodegradation Variance
Rate of biodegradation will depend on wall thickness and geometry of product.
